Income Protection

Have you ever thought about how you would cope if you were unable to work due to long term illness? How long would your employer continue to pay you? How long would your savings last? Do you have any savings?

There are various types of protection product that can give you the additional financial assurance you would require if you were to suffer an illness, accident or unemployment. These policies provide you with a monthly sum to help with your expenses.

Income Protection
Income protection can be set up until your retirement age or to the end of your mortgage. Most providers will limit the benefit to 50% to 67% of your gross monthly income.

Unlike Critical Illness insurance, income protection may payout in the event of back pain or stress.

Accident Sickness & Unemployment Benefit (ASU)

ASU policies are typically short-term policies (12 or 24 months) and unlike income protection policies have the option of protecting against unemployment.

Benefits levels are limited to a set percentage (for example 75%) of your monthly income.

Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance (MPPI)

MPPI is similar to ASU but is primarily taken out to cover mortgage payments and other mortgage related expenses. Again MPPI is a short-term policy and covers you against Accident, Sickness & Unemployment.

Unlike ASU cover the maximum level of cover available will be linked to your mortgage payments and not your income level.
